L'élection au Conseil des Etats en Valais a abouti à un ballottage général. Aucun des sept candidats n'a obtenu la majorité absolue fixée à 61'094 voix. La participation a atteint 60,46%. Le sortant Jean-René Fournier (PDC) a récolté 45'690 voix. Son colistier Beat Rieder en engrange 37'100. Suivent ensuite dans un mouchoir de poche Franz Ruppen (UDC) avec 29'539 voix et Pierre-Alain Grichting (PLR) avec 28'357 voix. L'ancien conseiller d'Etat Thomas Burgener (PS) récolte 20'942 voix. Christophe Clivaz (Vert) arrive en sixième position avec 14'369 voix. Robert Métrailler (Centre Gauche-PCS) ferme la marche loin derrière avec 4721 voix. Un éventuel deuxième tour est agendé au 1er novembre. Les listes doivent être déposées d'ici le mardi 20 octobre à 17 h.
