Le pape a accepté la démission de Mgr Joseph Roduit. A 75 ans le Père-Abbé de l'abbaye de St-Maurice a atteint l'âge de la retraite. Le Vatican doit réunir un chapitre pour désigner un successeur.
Joseph Roduit avait reçu la bénédiction abbatiale le 31 juillet 1999, succédant ainsi à Mgr Henri Salina. Il se retire l'année des 1500 ans de l'abbaye St-Maurice.
